I'm writing this after a midnight sneak out (Tee hee) That's right, I snuck out of the house, in the freezing cold, with only a lantern and my warm coat, to go borrow nails from Malon to get the roof fixed. I helped dad try and straighten out the bent nails yesterday afternoon, but we had little success (We only bent three apiece) I knew Malon wouldn't mind borrowing a few, just as long as I paid her back somehow
When I was at the gate of Lon Lon ranch, I heard a very pretty sound, haunting and high. I stopped in my tracks, wondering if I was hearing things. But the sound continued. I opened the gate up as quietly as I could, and entered the ranch.
Malon was in the horse pasture, singing sweetly. So that's! What I heard!
"Hi Malon!" I called out, waving and running towards her
Malon whirled around, her eyes wide and scared
"Malon, it's just me!"
Malon still looked terrified and in little to no time, I understood why
"What in the name of a good night's rest is going on out there?!"
A terrified prickle made its way down my spine. Ingo had heard me and was about to find out that Malon was singing at the dead of night and probably accused me of breaking into the ranch without permission.
"Run!" Malon hissed and she grabbed my hand. I dropped my lantern in the snow to avoid giving us away, and we both scampered from the pasture.
"Where do we go?" I asked, running as fast as I could to keep up with Malon.
Malon looked lost in thought. Then she swallowed and said "We should go hide in the shed over there."
I was about to open my mouth and protest, saying that it was too obvious a spot, but there was no time. We scampered inside and hid behind the crates stacked against the wall. Malon had just finished arranging her skirts so she would be fully hidden when Ingo opened the door. He was wearing a striped nightshirt, with a matching cap, and there was fire in his eyes. He had clearly hoped for a good night's rest
He was so angry, he apparently couldn't see properly, and left without fully searching the shed, and didn't bother to look in the spot where Malon and I were hiding with bated breath.
The moment the shed door was completely shut, Malon and I relaxed our tense muscles and sighed with great relief.
"That sure was close!" I groaned
"Tell me about it
" Malon looked miserable. "Ella, why did you have to go charging towards me like a bull that's seen red?"
came to borrow some nails
"What for?" Malon asked curiously.
I quickly explained to her about the roof situation. Being the good friend like she was, Malon understood.
"There's a whole crate of nails in this very shed!" She exclaimed
I eyed the many many crates that were stacked everywhere
.Somewhere" Malon gulped
We spent half an hour opening crates until we found the nails. Malon wrapped a great deal of them in her apron and gave them to me
"Don't forget to give me my apron back!" She giggled as she walked me out of Lon Lon Ranch. As soon as her back was turned, I ran all the way home, slipped the apron filled with nails on the table, and crept upstairs to my bed, where I am now-oops, look at the time! Must sleep now, good night! Or should I say good morning?
Mom and Dad found the apron filled with nails on the table when they entered the main room to make breakfast. Dad gave me a look that meant I-know-what-you-did-Ella, which I avoided by dropping my porridge on the floor and bending down to clean it up
"That's more that enough to repair the roof." He said weakly
"There is?" I asked innocently, not really paying attention.
"Indeed. But I'm just wondering how they got onto the kitchen table in Malon's apron."
"I'm wondering about that myself
" Mom said
"Same." Alex put in
My whole family stared at me (or more at my ass than anything else)
"What?" I said, straightening up so they could actually see my face.
"Did you sneak out at midnight to Lon Lon Ranch so you could borrow nails from Malon so the barn roof can be fixed?" Alex blurted out
"How did YOU know?" I raised an eyebrow suspiciously
"I saw you sneaking out at midnight."
Oops. There was no denying that. Darn fail sneaking skills.
I was punished (?) By helping dad repair everything that had been damaged inside and outside the house and barn. Then, I took a trip up to Lon Lon Ranch and gave Malon back her apron.
"Were your parents happy?" Malon inquired
" I shuffled the snow around my feet. "But I'm in trouble for sneaking out"
Malon clapped her hands over her mouth.
"I'm fine." I said. My punishment was to help Dad with all the repairs that required nails-I didn't mind.
"Were there enough nails?" She asked anxiously
"Plenty!" I said "Bad news is, I don't want to see another nail in my life."
Malon giggled and help one up that had remained in her apron. I jumped backwards and fell into the snow. Soon, Malon and I spent an active afternoon making snow angels and having wild snowball fights.
I'm exhausted right now, so good night.
I didn't write for nearly four days before my diary got, um, lost. I only just found it a few minutes ago, under my bed, with the dust bunnies.
Nothing has happened much, unless you could a Wolfos making off with one of our finest sheep, damnit.
Ryan and I got into another fight when I visited Kakariko village on an errand for Mom. (Clearly she forgot about Ryan and me getting into fights!)
Ryan had said something nasty about my dad again, and gosh! It was RUDE! Much ruder than the little remark about him tripping over a cow, MUCH more awful than that. This time, I broke Ryan's arm. No more fights for him, for at least a few weeks anyway, ha ha! I just hope Mom doesn't find out for a while.
Mom did find out about me breaking Ryan's arm. I'm in deep trouble now
My punishments for breaking that git Ryan's arm included
My diary being taken away (That's why I haven't written for over a week)
Not being allowed to do boy's work.
No sword fighting practice allowed!
Forced to help mom with sewing and knitting all day, yuck!
Not allowed to visit Malon
But finally, my punishments are over, and I'm a free bird! Yahoooo!
.so why am I writing in this diary when I could be doing better things with my time?
